DC Mon enforces ban on hunting, sale of wild animals

To enforce provisions of Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, and to prevent indiscriminate killing of wild animals and birds in Mon, deputy commissioner, Mon Dinesh Kumar IAS has imposed ban on killing and sale of wild animals and birds in Mon with immediate effect. All administrative officers in the district have been directed to ensure that village councils under their respective jurisdiction stop killing, sale of wild animals and birds and also prevent sale of its meat in eateries and hotels. An official bulletin stated that ban on killing of wild animals and birds should be seasonal as specified in schedule of Wildlife Act 1972 given below: (1) Pigeons: - March 15 to June 15. (2) Black Swamp bamboo and Hill partridge, Jungle fowl, Cockflorican, Pheasant: - March 1 to September 30. (3) Peacock Pheasant (Poly Pactronadn, Tragopan Quil):- April 1 to September 30. (4) Spot Bill, Whistling teal Wood duck and cotton teal: - April 1 to September 15. 5) Peacock: - whole year. (6) Pink head duck, Tragon and all other birds except Geese duck, shipe woodcock, plower hawks, crows magpie: - the whole year. (7) Antelopes, Bull Bison, Bull buffalo, full grown male deer and deers: - June 1 to October 31. (8) Females and immature males of the above species, hornless deer with horns in velvet swamp and spot deer:- the whole year. (9) Rhinoceros: - the whole year. (10) Elephant, except under special license issued by the Deputy Commissioner (the prohibition does not extend to elephants short Elephant Control Licence) Gibbons or Hooloks pygmy hog and pangolins: - the whole year. (11) Monitor Lizards and Pythons: - the whole year.
