Aiyar asks Cong to revitalize party

Union Minister for Panchayati Raj and DoNER Mani Shakar Aiyar called upon the state Congress to strengthen the party at the grass root level by inviting the youth, especially women into its fold for progress of the state. In his address to Congress party members at the Town Hall here Saturday, Aiyar, who is also chairman of the RGPRS stressed on the need to revitalize the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS) by inviting the youth, especially women into the Congress fold for progress of the state. Stressing on the working of the RGPRS, he said Nagaland must have at least five thousand members in the rural areas, so that the grass root level was strengthened. “Sangathan should be the ears and eyes of congress in the state, particularly in the rural areas”, he said. He also advised the Congress as the opposition in the state, to play a constructive role. He also urged upon party legislators to check the ruling government on three main issues such as; whether the money sanctioned by the central government was properly used; how the money was being spent ; whether money was given to the extortionists and whether money sanctioned by the central government was fully utilized for the development of the state. “We don’t’ have to cry over spilt milk, whatever has happened, has happened”, he said while referring to the outcome of the last assembly elections. He also asked the Congress to be prepared for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election so as to elect a Congress MP to bring more benefits to the state. Earlier, on his arrival at the Dimapur Airport, the Minister was received by Minister of Power, Doshehe, Minister Agriculture Dr.Chumben Murry Parliamentary Secretary Cooperation, R. Khing, CLP leader Chingwang Konyak and party MLAs- SI Jamir, Apok Jamir, Hewoto Awomi besides DC Dimapur, Moangwati Aier, SP, Liremo Lotha, DMC chairperson, Khekaho Assumi and various other dignitaries. He also held a closed door meeting with Congress leaders at Hotel Saramati.
