Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) has demanded authorities concerned that the 17 Assam Rifles be immediately withdrawn from Shiroi village under Ukhrul district in Manipur so as to create safe passage for the NSCN (I-M) activists to vacate the village peacefully. ENPO general secretary, Toshi Wungtung said the standoff which has well advanced into the 2nd week was against the spirit of the ongoing ceasefire and pointed out that ceasefire covered all Naga inhabited areas. ENPO expressed pain over the physiological and psychological trauma and disruption of daily activities of the civilians particularly the women folk and children arising out of the situation. The ENPO demanded immediate withdrawal of the security forces so as to resolve the matter amicably in the interest of peace and also to allow free movement of humanitarian aid and media movement.
