GOC 3 Corps opens SBI branch

GOC 3 Corps Maj. Gen AK Choudhary inaugurating the State Bank of India branch at Merapani.

A State Bank branch and ATM were inaugurated at Mantripukhri by Lt Gen RK Loomba, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, general officer commanding 3 Corps on January 31. On the occasion Maj Gen AK Choudhary, AVSM, SM, VSM, IGAR (S) and S Vishwanathan chief general manager, SBI North East Circle were also present. Lt Gen RK Loomba, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal lauded the efforts made by SBI to reach out far flung areas. He also exhorted the bank to renew its efforts to penetrate remote areas of North East. The Branch would not only benefit the personnel of Assam Rifles but also a large number of civilian populations in the vicinity, he said. On the occasion, S Vishwanathan presented loan documents to a selected few beneficiaries. SBI Branch at Mantripukhri started its functions by opening its first saving bank account by an Assam Rifles soldier. Efforts for opening of bank branch were first initiated in September 2007 and branch could be opened due to untiring efforts displayed by staff at DGAR, Shillong and State Bank of India. Extending the Reach of Banking facilities to AR personnel had been a key result area for director general of Assam Rifles and had progressed exponentially during last few months under his guidance and support. The Branch besides helping the soldiers of Assam Rifles, Army and other security forces would also be of major assistance to civilian population of Mantripukhri, Chingmeirong, Koirengei, Khurkhul, Nilukuti and other villages.
