An irate mob set fire to a goods-laden truck after it collided with an auto (NL-01-D-8272) and seriously injuring the auto driver on NH 39 near Central Jail junction at around 7.30 pm Sunday. Police who reached the spot arrested the driver of the truck (NL-01 D-8272) identified as Rajnarayan Rai (32) from Imphal. Two fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire. The truck was carrying vegetables some of which were partially burned. Vehicular movement along NH 39 was stalled for around one hour when the mob numbering around 100, comprising mostly of youths, threatened to block the road. However the situation was brought under control after the arrival of police and vehicles allowed to pass. Police have not identified the injured auto driver till the time of filing this report.
