1 killed in police firing in Karbi Anglong

A 17-year-old girl died while seven others received bullet injuries when the personnel of APBN fired upon them from their camp at Ramnagar Phanglopet village under Bokolia PS in Karbi Anglong district of Assam at around 6 pm on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Parvati Teronpi. The injured, five women and two men, have been shifted to hospitals in Nagaon and Diphu. According to the villagers, some jawans of APBN stationed at Ramnagar Phanglopet village went to attend a religious programme in the village and returned inebriated. On their way back, they beat up several villagers they came across. When the villagers went to the APBN camp to complain, the jawans fired on them from their camp killing the girl and injuring seven others. To cover up their misdeed, the personnel also set on fire their own camp, sources said. SP Karbi Anglong and other senior officials rushed to the spot to investigate the matter.
