Kacharis celebrate Aai Sagi

Aai Sagi - a post harvest festival of Kachari community was celebrated with fervor in Dimapur where the community including chief guest, vice-president of Kachari Tribal Council, Nagaland, Raj Kumar Paira Mech made a clarion call to the people gathered at Kushiabill-Darogajan playground to inculcate sense of oneness. Stating that an identity of a person was placed only when one respect parents, elders, culture and tradition, the chief guest asked the gathering to instill the aura of oneness amongst them by demonstrating a sense of responsibility in preserving own's culture and tradition and not by imitating alien culture. Raj Kumar also said he was impressed by various cultural items including Mech Kachari cultural dance, Dimasa Kachari cultural dance and Garo cultural dance presented by different cultural troupes stating the items itself illustratesd and signified people's crave for closeness and unity. Urging the Mech-Kachari to know their own identities, chief guest gave a rough sketch "even a Kachari Christians come under customary law of the organization" at the same time said changes in community and positive thinking should be the target to preserve own's identity. With Nagaland government's declaration of current Calendar as of 'Year of Capacity', he said the council was concentrating to participate in every field including sports, culture and education. Later he donated Rs.10,000 towards celebration. Also speaking as guests of honour, founder president of All Dimasa, Mech, Kachari Customary Organization (ADMKCO), and pioneer of Kachari Tradition and Culture, Rameshwar Basumatary and Bejar Mech, also contemplated that the cultural presentations were a revival to 'cultural values' at the same time breaking the barrier of disunity and heralding the arrival of oneness, love, peace and tranquility. The celebration hosted by All Dimasa, Mech, Kachari Customary Organization (ADMKCO) since 2006, saw Dhunuram Mech, ex-Hadungara, Bokajan Gyati, invoking God's blessing, welcome songs and dance were presented by Padumpukhuri youth and Bagurumba Kristi Dal, Bokajan Gyati respectively, chairman of the organizing committee, welcomed the gathering, president of the organization, Bhupati Mech highlighted the significance of the festival, an exhibition on of Kachari traditional games was presented by Kushiabill youths while vote of thanks was delivered by secretary of the organizing committee, Gopinath Mech. The celebration was also marked by cultural items followed by an entertainment programme by Mech Kachari Youth Front and Mech Kachari Students' Union, Dimapur.
