United Sangtam Students' Conference (USSC) from January 8 to 11 observed its 61st general session at Seyochung town on the theme "Capacity Building", hosted by Seyochung area, with state chief minister, Neiphiu Rio gracing the occasion as chief guest.
Addressing the opening session, chief minister urged students to focus and pursue for quality education for uplift of Sangtam community and Nagas at large.
Ruling out students from indulging in politics, Rio however encouraged them to focus in studies for academic excellence, a release issued by USSC general secretary stated.
He also called upon talented youth to avail opportunities and various schemes availed by government. State chief minister was accompanied by parliamentary secretary for law and justice and tourism, Yitachu and MLA and NSMDC chairperson, Kipili Sangtam.
Meanwhile, IGP, ST Sangtam who graced the inaugural function of games and sports challenged the students to preserve and continue to practice games and sports, adding, it was source of building sound mind and spirit. Employment and craft joint director, M Sangtam gracing the cultural show as chief guest appealed students to preserve rich culture and tradition of the community. He also advised them to do a research on culture, so as to keep alive the identity of oneself.
The main speakers of the session included secretary home and DUDA, TC Sangtam, DIS, NT Akhum and Rev. Y Imti.
Other highlights of the session included workshop in education and village administration, beauty pageant, games and sports, cultural show and talent show.
USSC also elected new team of office bearers for 62nd session with Throngli as presiden, Setsacho as vice president and Tsadang as general secretary, release added.
