Spreading awareness on environment

Students of Kohima Science College Tuesday joined with the rest of the country in observing one- day National Environment Awareness Campaign 2008-2009 on theme "climate change". The students distributed poster and pamphlet to public in the streets of Kohima containing information about the status of Kohima and global climate. In a brief statement, lecturer department of zoology, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma V. Doulo, said "let each individual take note of climate change, become aware of it and act now before it is too late". The awareness campaign was sponsored by ministry of environment and forest and was organized by Institute for Development of Environment and People (IDEP) and Department of Zoology, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma. (Correspondent) Meanwhile, Friends Inter trusteeship Alliance organized an environmental awareness workshop with youth leaders, NGOs and women and students leaders at its conference hall at Jalukie on January 16 with Mongzeung Mpom as resource person. The programme sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forest was facilitated by Nagaland Pollution Control Board NPCB) under National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) 2008-2009. Participants included representatives from Jalukie Students' Union, general secretary BAWWS and colleagues, members of Kingdom Stewards, members of JTLBCYD with Co-ordinator, 14 comrades and individuals with the concern for environmental issues. The one day Awareness programme winded with a resolution to submit a memorandum to Jalukie Town Council JTC to provide dustbins in all shops within the jurisdiction and to ban usage of plastics bags.
