State chief minister Neiphiu Rio Wednesday called upon the Dobashis of the state to work with utmost integrity and deliver justice to the people so as to strengthen the hands of government and society as a whole. He was addressing the general conference of the Nagaland DBs Association held in Phek under the motto “Backbone of Administration”. Rio observed that the DBs carry the most important responsibility in the justice delivery system as they were “the custodians of the Naga customary laws”. He however cautioned that wrong decisions had the potential of creating divisions, misunderstandings and even violence. Rio appreciated the role being played by the joint forum of the DBs and GBs adding that it has tirelessly worked for unity and reconciliation. He further urged upon the DBs to take steps towards documentation and streamlining of the customary laws so as to improve the delivery of justice . He said this should be done in consultation with all the tribal Hohos so that different conventions and laws of the respective tribes were properly recorded. Rio praised the system of Naga customary as the objective was for reconciliation, understanding and compromise. He further encouraged the DBs to conduct seminars, conferences and refresher courses, especially for the new appointees and assured cooperation and assistance of the State Government. Rio expressed the hope that all sections would work towards paving the way for a negotiated and honorable settlement to the “Indo-Naga” political problem. Presidents of the Nagaland GBs Federation and the Chakhesang Public Organisation also delivered short speeches. Medical Minister Kuzhuluzo, Parliamentary Secretary Yitachu, Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board, Neiba Kronu, NPF Secretary General KG Kenye and a host of senior civil and police officers and public leaders of the area and the district also attended the function.
