One injured in accidental shooting

One person was seriously injured, in what was reported to be a case of accidental shooting by his own friend when they went out for hunting in Akhegwo village jungle, Meluri area under Phek district, Wednesday at around 3 p.m. The victim identified as Zhankhim (25), who was brought to Naga Hospital Kohima Thursday at around 7:30 p.m. was reportedly shot in the head, with entry from left side of the parietal region and exit from right. Hospital sources when contacted said his friend, who was on the opposite direction, mistakenly fired the muzzle loading rifle and shot on head, leaving the victim unconscious/collapse on the spot. They said the brain was oozing and condition critical. Victim’s friend talking to Nagaland Post said he saw his friend as a ‘black bear’, and that he fired at him. Sources from hospital suspect there was some sign of a pellet trapped on the right side of the victim’s triceps. Sources however added that at this point the gravity of damage was of the head. The condition of the victim, sources said was critical and that he may not live a normal life even if he survives.
