Reacting to the resignation of four Congress MLAs and their supporters, senior politician and an independent MLA of 5-Ghaspani-II A/C, K. Hollohon said the trend of defection was “disturbing” for the Naga political problem as well as for the political leaders and the public. “Public should also condemn such behaviour of political leaders and such leaders should not be elected again,”Hollohon told this reporter at his residence on Thursday. Asserting that he was not against Congress nor supporting NPF or other parties, he opined that it was wrong on the part of MLAs to dispose people’s right and confidence. “According to me Naga political problem could not be solved till today even after 70 years because Nagas are not united,” he said. “Politics today is about self interest, maintaining self-styled rank and file and this problem still persists,” he stated. Making a call to the public, leaders of both underground groups and over ground, to be united and work for the cause of the Nagas, he pointed out that the Naga public elected their leaders to solve the Naga political problem as well as for development of their areas. “But unfortunately Nagas are only after money and therefore we are losing the Naga identity,” he said. He felt that there should be a common body to fight for the rights of the Nagas and the political issue. According to Hollohon, a true political leader should never betray the people’s trust. “Whosever have resigned as MLAs, they are nobody now. They will be judged by the public in the by-elections and their true identity will be known only then,” he added. When asked which political leader had ruled the state well, Hollohon mentioned the names of former chief ministers Hokishe Assumi, SC Jamir and JB Jasoki and said a leader like them is difficult to find in the state today.
