Apprising Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde about the critical power scenario in Nagaland, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio sought his intervention and urged for restoration of the 26 MW allocation to the state. In a letter to the Union minister on Wednesday, Rio said Nagaland was allocated an additional share of 26 MW round the clock with effect from March 1, 2008 under the former’s initiative but it was withdrawn on June 26, 2008 due to which the state was facing acute power shortage during peak hour resulting in load shedding. The letter said Nagaland has negligible internal power generation and was fully dependent on the central sector allocation which is inadequate to meet the demand particularly during the lean season. The restricted peak demand for the state presently stood at about 90 MW and only about 60% of it is met from the central sector and state’s own generation of about 12 MW, the letter added. DMC member quits Cong Dimapur, Feb 19 (NPN): While affirming solidarity and unflinching support to former MLA Azheto Zhimomi, who resigned from the state Assembly, DMC councilor from Ward No. 17 T Vikheho Zhimom resigned from both the primary and active membership of Congress. In his resignation letter, Vikheho also said henceforth he would support the Khekaho Assumi, DMC chairman, Dimapur. Welcoming him to the NPF Party, DMC Chairperson Khekaho said Vikheho’s move would help the DMC in its all round development besides strengthening the party.
