Responding to the news item “Police renegade clarifies action” that appeared on February 21 issue of this paper, DC Tuensang YL Jami has clarified that there was “no direct official dealing” between him and former constable Mukheba Yimchunger. “I had no direct official dealing with the renegade Constable Mukheba Yimchunger … and for which the question of ill-treatment in any manner doesn’t arise at any point of time as was alleged,” the DC said in a statement. He also said no notification/order had been issued so far “to arrest the family or banning the village” of the deserter. It was further clarified that there was no such “DC’s box” for arms and ammunition and that the weapons were taken away by the Constable from the guard room of the DC’s residence by breaking open two locks of the arms’ locker which was located in a separate room. The DC rubbished the reasons given by the renegade constable to justify his action as “completely baseless and fabricated.” He said any of the given reason was not sufficient to commit such heinous crime by a government official who was on bonafide official duty adding that the offence was committed on personal conviction if not misguided by ulterior motive or situational compulsion. He said the case was still under persuasion and that the stolen weapons have to be returned under any circumstances so that an amicable solution might be arrived at. He also requested the civil society, NGOs and other government departments under Tuensang district to cooperate with the administration and police for maintenance of law and order.
