Life returned to normal in Manipur after six days of large-scale violence as the curfew was relaxed for eight hours from 9 am to 5 pm on Monday. No untoward incidents were reported during the relaxation period. Official sources said the curfew in Imphal East and Imphal West districts was relaxed because of improvement in law and order situation. Indefinite curfew was imposed on Thursday in the two districts after large-scale violence following killings of a sub-divisional officer Kasom Khullen SDO and two of his staff members . The curfew was imposed because of statewide agitation by several organisations in protest against the killings. The family members accepted the bodies of the three deceased following an understanding with the government. Hundreds of people gathered at RIMS morgue to attend the last rites of the three slain government employees. The families and the JAC formed in connection with the murder incident agreed to receive the bodies after talks with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh at his official bungalow late last night. The last rites of the three were performed together at Gandhi Ghat, the river bank of the Nambul river, as desired by the families and JAC. The bodies were brought to the funeral site in a procession under heavy security. Even as no untoward incident was reported, mourners shouted slogans demanding punishment to the guilty. The three were kidnapped on February 13 from Ukhrul and their bludgeoned bodies were found in Senapati district on February 17.
