Appreciating the discussion and resolution adopted at the two-day Naga Convention for Reconciliation and Peace held at Kohima local ground from February 21 to 22, the NSCN-IM welcomed the statement of commitment that the Naga reconciliation must take place at the highest level of all Naga political groups, saying that it was an indication of positive development. The NSCN-IM in a release issued by its MIP on Monday said “now everything must follow in right earnest with the spirit of tolerance and patience”. The release said the NSCN-IM had made it clear from the very beginning that the genuine unity must come from the highest level as the second rung leaders of other groups were simply beating around the bush and no decisive action on reconciliation and unity was initiated till date. The release said the NSCN-IM participated in the reconciliation meetings twice in the past with the hope that “highest leaders” of other groups would turn up but their failure to attend the meetings disappointed the top NSCN-IM leadership. However, the NSCN-IM appreciated the “persistence” of the FNR which organized the convention in Kohima under the theme “Let My People Go”. While asserting that it would never stay away from socio-political aspiration of the Naga people, the release said that was the reason why the NSCN-IM took initiatives on this crucial national issue. It may be mentioned that the NSCN-IM did not participate in the reconciliation and peace convention in Kohima which concluded on Sunday.
