The School Education Department has suspended three of its staffers who were arrested by police in connection with the February 20 incident in Kohima wherein Rs 15.87 lakh department money was looted by miscreants. A deputy director, who is also the DDO of the Directorate, had been recommended for departmental actions for the incident. On receiving the report of arrest of the three staff members — Nokchet (assistant cashier), Sheebu (peon daftry) and Vitsosielie (driver), the School Education Department issued suspension order against them. The department also recommended departmental actions against the deputy director Lecho Krocha for negligence and breach of service conduct for not requisitioning for police escort to transport the amount despite the standing directive of the state government. Director, School Education, Nipusilie Angami when contacted confirmed the report of the suspension of the three staffers and departmental actions against the deputy director. Further, he also revealed that the deputy director had been stripped off his responsibility as DDO soon after the incident. Armed miscreants looted Rs 15.87 lakh from the three staffers of the School Education department after abducting them at gun point from near State Museum at around 1 pm on February 20 while they were returning to their office after drawing the amount from bank. The miscreants numbering three allegedly took them to an isolated place somewhere in New Secretariat area and decamped with the amount after tying their hands and blind folding them. The three staffers were detained by the police for questioning and later arrested them the same day. Even though police are investigating the case, no breakthrough has been made so far.
