Nagaland beat Meghalaya by 20 runs

Riding on a half century by Hoikato Zhimomi Nagaland overcame Arunachal Pradesh by 20 runs in the first ever 1st inter state North East T20 invitational prize money Cricket Cup played at Shillong, Tuesday. The tournament is being hosted by Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA). Hoikato who was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the IPL 2008 season, remained not out on 58 runs to took his team to a competitive total of 131 for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted over. His 58 runs from 46 balls, was studded with a huge six and five fours. Earlier, Nagaland team was off to a good start with both openers Deepak and Akhrietuo putting up 40 runs in five overs, after the skipper Atha Angami opted to bat first after winning the toss. Led by Rakesh two wickets haul Arunachal Pradesh were bundled out for 101 runs for the loss of 7 wickets while chasing the target. Man of the match Hoikato took one wicket, while Imli Wati and Ao Sashi returned with one each. Nagaland placed in group ‘A’ along with Meghalaya and Manipur will now take on Manipur on February 26 and Meghalaya on February 27, at 12 pm. Assam, Sikkim and Mizoram are placed in group B. Only two teams one from each group will proceed to the final which will be played on February 28. In the other match Manipur defeated Meghalaya by nine wickets. The host state electing to bat first were bundled out for a partly 83 runs in 19 overs. In reply Manipur reached the target losing only one wicket. The tournament is sponsored by state finance minister and MCA president Conard Sangma. Except, Tripura all other North East states are taking part in the tournament. Earlier, on Monday the tournament was declared opened by chief guest MCA president Conard Sangma.
