The programme would kick-off with the arrival of Sekrenyi feast father followed by unfurling of Sekrenyi flag at 11 a.m. The programme would include greeting by president Angami Public Organization Kekhreingulie Liny and elderly blessing by state minister for urban development and higher education, Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu.
Highlights of the celebration would include Lita song and Tati song besides cultural competition, feast and prize distribution in the afternoon.
The Sekrenyi festival normally falls on the 25th day of the Angami month of Kezei (February). The ten-day festival is also called ‘Phousanyi’ (self-purification) by the Angamis. The festival follows a circle of ritual and ceremony. The Thekra Hie is the best part of the festival where the young people of the village sit together and sing traditional songs throughout the day. The most important ceremony falls on the eight-day when the bridge pulling or gate pulling is performed or inter village visits are exchanged.
