CLP not to attend Naga Consultative Meeting in March

Dismayed over the DAN government for not taking into confidence the leader of Opposition, president of NPCC and other Congress leaders of the state before conceptualizing the Naga Consultative Meeting, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has decided not to attend the meeting “purportedly” convened by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio from March 5 to 7. Parliamentary Secretary to CLP C Apok Jamir in a release on Friday said the CLP took the decision to this effect after detailed deliberations at an emergency meeting in New Delhi on Friday. The CLP also rued that a major political party such as INC has been kept in the dark which amounts to ignoring the party as a whole. It said the “INC cannot be taken only for a joy ride”, adding the party will not blindly follow some other political adversary who are having their “own hidden agendas”. Stating that the crucial meeting has been convened on the suggestions and recommendations of Political Affairs Committee of DAN, the CLP lamented that the working papers/concept paper and the agenda of the meeting were not circulated along with the invitation cards. “Presuming that it has a broad based intentions, the reasons for having to convene such a meet ought to have been consulted first,” it opined. Reiterating that it has been the consistent and clear stand of the NPCC that the Naga political problem has to be resolved through peaceful and democratic means, the CLP asserted that the NPCC continued to uphold the same policy. It however appreciating the efforts of the churches, NGOs and all other civil society for Naga unity and reconciliation.
