Mozart of Chennai to become ''Dr Rahman''

"Mozrat of Madras" and double Oscar winner A R Rahman would be conferred an Honorary Doctorate by the Anna University. University sources here today said that the Music Maestro would be conferred with Honorary Doctorate in media sciences for becoming the first Indian to win the Oscar and also for his contribution to music. Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister M K Stalin and eminent Space Scientist Mayilsamy Annadurai, the man behind the Chandrayaan-1 mission would also be awarded honorary doctorates. While Mr Annadurai, Chandrayaan Project Director, would be conferred with an Honoris Causa for his contribution to space science and aerospace engineering, Mr Stalin too be awarded an Honoris Causa in architecture and social sciences for his contribution to urban and rural development, construction of bridges, flyovers and environment-friendly parks, as well as his contribution to the formation of Self-Help Groups. Tamil Nadu Governor had approved the names for the doctorates, which would be conferred at a special convocation to be held in the last week of this month. The special convocation would be held as part of the University's celebrations to commemorate the birth centenary of late Chief Minister C N Annadurai.
