The Merapani Village Council and public of Merpani have urged the NSCN(I-M) authority to award exemplary punishment to three NSCN(I-M) cadres who had allegedly physically assaulted and verbally humiliated the chairman of Merapani Village Council without any “tangible reason”, failing which they resolved not to cooperate with the NSCN-IM in future. Sources said the Merapani Village Council and general public of Merapani in a representation to CO, Wokha unit, NSCN(I-M), said the three NSCN-(I-M) cadres - Nzambemo Lotha, Wobemo Yanthan and Mhabemo Mozhui -physically assaulted and verbally abused the Merapani Village Council chairman on February 27 without any “tangible reason” and demanded that the NSCN(I-M) higher authority award exemplary punishment to them for their action. They also decided not to cooperate with the NSCN(I-M) in future if it failed to comply with the demand. Describing the trio as “criminal elements”, the village council and public said the assault on the village chairman was not only an insult to the Merapani village but also to the Naga National workers and Naga society at large. Sources also said a mob gathered at the village on February 28 and tried to track down the three NSCN(I-M) cadres but they managed to flee towards Wokha side.
