Security beefed up in Manipur

Manipur chief minister, O Ibobi Singh on Monday convened a high level security meeting to discuss the law and order situation in the state after a series of killing of non-locals by suspected militants. At least three non-locals, a barber, a sugarcane juice vendor and one labour were shot dead by miscreants suspected to be cadres of militant outfit in the last three days in Imphal areas. All the victims hailed from Bihar. The series of killing has recounted last year’s incident of murder of non-locals and have alarmed the police and patrolling has been intensified across the state. In March last year atleast 20 non-local laborers were killed by suspected cadres of KYKL. Mobile security posts have been set up in all sensitive areas and entire main road leading to Imphal city to check movement of anti-social elements in greater Imphal areas and to keep close vigilance on the movement of migrant labourers. The high level meeting of the CM was attended by the top brasses of the state police and state as well as Central security forces, an official source said. During the meeting, the chief minister reportedly directed the officers to be alert and to intensify the counter insurgency operations and patrolling in sensitive areas across the state, sources said.
