Reacting to Rajya Sabha MP, Khekiho Zhimomi’s accusations that it was creating roadblocks in the democratic process in Nagaland by opposing simultaneous elections to the lone Lok Sabha seat and the four vacant Assembly seats, the NPCC explained the “peculiar” political situation in the state which led to its opposing the simultaneous elections. NPCC Vice President, (Admn.) Zacilhö Vadeo in a statement said as the four vacant constituencies were caused by allurement of money and political commitments, rather than by death or any other natural courses, any political party had the right to approach the concerned authority for taking corrective measures, redressal or clarification etc. “If the said four Assembly seats were caused to be vacated by death or any other natural courses, the matter should have been left to the Election Commission or any concerned authorities to decide for holding the by-elections at any convenient time” it said. NPCC however said that the ECI as an autonomous body has the authority whether to consider the suggestions put up by any political party(s).
