Taking serious note of the dire threats issued by some underground organizations on two top bureaucrats and the head of the SIT(Vigilance), the state cabinet at a meeting held here today, asserted that the government cannot be cowed down by such threats and asked the SIT to carry out the task of investigation into appointment of a huge number of bogus teachers in the school education department and assured all the back up and support in this regard. The state government had constituted a Special Investigation Team of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing to investigate various anomalies and irregularities in the appointment of bogus teachers during the period 2007-08 and 2008-09. Some leaders of underground groups had reportedly warned against the probe and failing which the chief secretary, additional chief secretary and commissioner school education and DIG(Vigilance) were threatened with dire consequences, it was reported. The SIT was to investigate the modus operandi of the bogus appointments through fraudulent means or through misinformation with the motive to appoint candidates without posts available. It was reported that those who issued the threats deemed the investigation as a direct challenge to Nagas and any consequent action as “anti-Naga” and put the responsibility of halting the probes on the three officers and failing which “capital punishment” would be meted out.
