Reiterating its demand on the resignation of NU VC, Prof K. Kannan and some officials, the NUTA has made fresh demands over what it described as “serious illegal” meeting of the Finance Committee (FC) and the Executive Council (EC) of Nagaland University in Delhi on February 27 and March 2 respectively. Asserting that the meeting was held in serious violation of financial prudence, when the University was already under scanner for failing to submit audited annual accounts from 2004 till date, and with a pending CBI inquiry on financial irregularities involving top officers of the University, the NUTA demanded that all local members of the EC, including the VC and the Registrar refund back to the University, all journey expenses to and from Delhi and all other expenses incurred for the same. CEC NUTA in a memorandum to the NU VC issued jointly by its president Rosemary Dzuvichu and general secretary N. Venuh also demanded the resignation of all EC members on moral grounds for “not applying their minds and objecting to such illegal action” of holding the important meetings outside the University premises and incurring financial loss of almost Rs three lakh. The NUTA also indicted the VC of attempting to regularize the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs.33.77 lakh describing it as a direct violation of the directive of the Visitor to the VC to initiate action against all officers including the Controller of Examination, who were found guilty of the scam, as per the report of the Fact Finding Committee (FFC). According to the NUTA, the VC had proposed to write off the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs.33.77 lakh at the FC meeting, held recently in Delhi. It said the “illegal attempt” of the VC to shield the guilty officers by trying to regularise the fraudulent withdrawal made him a “partner to the crime” which was also seen as pre-empting the CBI inquiry and trying to tamper with evidence on the same The NUTA reiterated that the VC has lost the confidence of teachers in holding the Chair, due to rampant violation of the University Act and Statutes, financial irregularities and the latest being serious financial violations and attempt to “regularize a crime”.
