Tournament favorite Kughovi Baptist Church opened their Football for Bible tourney campaign on a high note after a convincing 3-0, victory over Kuda Village Baptist Church (KVBC) to enter into quarterfinals, played at DDSC Stadium, here Thursday. The tournament is being organized by Bible Society of India, Auxiliary Resource Mobilization Committee (RMC). In the other match of the day, led by Renthungo’s two goals, Dimapur Lotha Area Baptist Church (DLABC) registered a hard fought 2-1, victory over Dimapur District Inter Bible College Sports Fellowship (DDIBCSF) to set up quarterfinal clash against Kughovi Baptist Church. The lone goal for DDIBCSF was scored by Lumtsüo. Renthungo was adjudged the man of the match. Inspired by Hokugha’s two goals and one by Atomu, KVBC proved no match for Kughovi boys who with their brilliant techniques and skills dominated the entire match. KVBC were not allowed to settle down while their custodian was kept busy by the Kughovi boys through out the match by applying pressure at regular intervals. Kughovi opened their account in the 7th minute when a superb right cross from skipper Anato was converted by Hokugha after the rival custodian failed to collect the ball. Atomu almost increased the score line in the 12th minute but his powerful shot was well judged by the keeper. He also had another opportunity missed out in the 20th minute. The score line was 1-0 in favour of Kughovi in the first half. A minute into the second half, Atomu this time made no mistake to double the score line after his volley rolled past the keeper to find the empty net. He also had another opportunity missed out in the 40th minute when his solo run effort after beating two defenders failed to clear the rival custodian. Hokugha scored his second and the team’s third goal after his 25 yards free kick found the net seven minutes before the final whistle. Earlier, in the second minute Kughovi defender Vishiho and KVBC striker Achüto Nagi had to leave the field bleeding after both bumped into one another while fighting for the ball. Kethozhepu of KVBC was adjudged the man of the match. Meanwhile, the organizer thanked the match patron editor of Tir Yim Yim, Temjen Jamir for his donation of Rs.10,000 towards the tournament.
