Militants lob grenade

A grenade attack was carried out at the residence of an engineer Thursday morning while a search for was launched by Imphal police for a missing executive engineer of state Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD) after being abducted by suspected militants, According to the police, the executive engineer, division-V, Md Liyakat Ali, a resident of Lilong in Thoubal district was kidnapped by suspected militants on ransom demand from the way to his office at Imphal on Monday. A missing report was lodged by the family at Lilong police station on Wednesday. Meanwhile, suspected militants carried a failed attack at the house of an executive engineer named Chongtham Ranbir of the same department at Singjamei in Imphal Thursday morning at around 9 am. The bomb was hurled in the house guarded by security forces. It fell near the courtyard of the house but failed to explode. Police were informed by the family immediately arrived at the spot and defused the bomb safely at around 10.30 am. Decrying the acts of the militants, a sit in protest was carried out by employees of the state IFCD at its office complex at Khoyathong, Imphal suspending all official works. Around 200 employees took part in the protest which commenced from 10 am and went on till 3 pm.
