Longleng district administration in association with Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) January 27 jointly organized a consultative meeting of village and church leaders under Longleng district at PBCA hall, Nyengching, Longleng.
The meet resolved that such meeting should take place at least once every year. The meet also resolved to translate Village Council Act and VDB module into Phom dialect for the convenience of village leaders. Observing that many churches under the district were neglected and church leaders underpaid, the meet also resolved to allocate at least one specific scheme exclusively for the church.
The meet sponsored by District AIDS Committee (DAC) was attended by chairman village councils, VDB secretaries, head GBs, pastors and women leaders from the district, a press communiqué issued by DC office Longleng stated.
District deputy chief medical officer, Dr. O Konyan in the meet gave a power point presentation on the issue of HIV and AIDS with special reference to the prevailing situation in the district.
SDO (C), M Shayung Phom highlighted on roles, duties and functions of the village councils by pointing out various provisions as enshrined in Nagaland village council Act 1978.
Longleng deputy commissioner, CK Nihekhu Sema addressing the meeting highlighted on duties and functions of VDB and its other obligations. He also emphasized on the need for correlation between VCs, VDBs and church leaders for proper implementation of all development programmes.
Further, DC also called upon village leaders for proper implementation of the schemes sanctioned by the government.
To meet any health related exigencies, the house resolved to open separate village account and deposit minimum amount of Rs. 10, 000 from their respective VDB funds, the release stated.
Others who spoke at the meet included SP Longeleng, PBCA executive secretary, Y Nuklu Phom, Project director DRDA, Longleng Town Council chairperson, Rev A Lungshen and village council chairman of Auching, Hukphangm and Orangkong.
