14,554 appear HSLC exam 2009

Altogether 14,554 students are appearing the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination 2008, which commenced on Friday in 53 centres spread across the state. Of the 14,554 candidates, 7336 are males and 7218 females. Dimapur district topped the chart with 15 centres and 4499 candidates followed by Kohima district with eight centres and 2846 candidates and Mokokchung district comes third with six centres and 1111 candidates. In Wokha district, 928 candidates are appearing the exam in four centres, 902 candidates are writing the exam in four centres of Tuensang district, 1049 candidates in four centres of Zunheboto district, 912 candidates in four centres of Mon district, 270 candidates in one centre of Longleng district, 514 candidates in two centres of Kiphire district, 476 candidates in two centres of Peren district and 1046 candidates in four centres of Phek. Speaking to Nagaland Post over phone Nini Meru, chairperson, NBSE, said the first day of the examination in all the centres of the state passed off peacefully. She expressed gratitude to the police department for the security arrangements in all the centres in the state and hoped that the peaceful atmosphere will persist till the end of the examinations. Nini also informed that nine students from Senapati district of Manipur appearing the examination under NBSE this year. In Dimapur district, additional security has been provided in all the examination centres as per the direction of the district administration.
