Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland Khekiho Zhimomi moved a Private Member’s Bill for a Joint Government’s Committee to screen all Acts of Parliament applicable in Nagaland in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. The Bill “Acts of Parliament (Application to Nagaland) Bill, 2009” asked for setting up of a Joint Committee comprising ministers and officers of the Union and Nagaland governments for examining every Act of Parliament to see whether Article 371-A, which gives special status to Nagaland, was “affected or not”, Khekiho said in his statement in the Rajya Sabha while moving the Bill. “Where it is affected, unless the Legislative Assembly passes a resolution, the Act of Parliament shall not apply to Nagaland,” he stated. The Bill seeks to empower the ventral government to issue notification naming the ministers and officers under the proposed Act. The MP also said the Assembly Committee on Article 371-A set up by the DAN government after amending the Rules of Procedure of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 2007 was being made functional.
