Churches urged to take initiative to tackle HIV,AIDS

District Level Advocacy Workshop on HIV and AIDS was held at Wokha on February 13 at DCs conference hall on the theme political leadership and community empowerment which was organized by center for youth and social action, Wokha and supported by the Legislators Forum of AIDS and Nagaland state AIDS control society. According to an official bulletin, parliamentary secretary for prison, home guard, fire and emergency services, W. Kithan grace the occasion as the chief guest. In his address he appealed to the people to inculcate right knowledge to youngsters so that HIV and AIDS can be prevented from further infection, and also said churches should take initiative in spreading awareness message. Short speeches were also delivered by minister for agricultural, Dr. Chumben Murry, deputy speaker, Ralanthung Yanthan and ADC Wokha, Athel O. Lotha. In the second session, supervisor ICDS Wikha, Lichumo Odyuo gave a brief account on HIV and AIDS scenario in Wokha district. Basic education on HIV and AIDS, stigma and discrimination in relation to HIV and AIDS and role of community on prevention of AIDS was presented by President, Centre for Youth and Social Action, Wokha, Robin Ezung. State coordinator, legislators’ forum on AIDS Nagaland, Dr. Vinito L. Chishi also gave a brief account on HIV and AIDS scenario in Nagaland.
