Police identify main accused involved in Atovi’s killing

Dimapur police disclosed that the main accused involved in the killing of late Atovi. H. Yepthomi on January 25 near Durga Mandir New Market area has been identified though evading arrest. SP Dimapur in a press briefing Monday, disclosed that the main accused has been identified as one ‘SS’ 2nd Lt Shevuto Zhimo of the NSCN (IM), son of Vikhuzhe Zhimo of Hoshepu village under Nuiland sub-divison. The accused has been evading arrest and is alleged to have been taking shelter at Hebron Camp, he said. The SP’s disclosure came in the wake of a memorandum submitted to DC Dimapur on February 2 by Thahekhu village authorities at DC’s office here. Police said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising of SDPO, one OC and one ASI was formed to investigate the murder. The SIT conducted raids at various places in the course of investigation which pointed at the involvement of Shevuto Zhimo. Police also said the evidence procured by them clearly showed his involvement in the killing and upon whom an arrest warrant has been issued. Meanwhile, on request of the Dimapur Police, the DGP’s office has sent an official request to the Cease Fire Monitoring Group cell to help them apprehend the accused sheltering at Hebron Camp. It was disclosed that despite the plea, the NSCN (IM) functionaries in Hebron camp have not yet responded till date. Negotiations have been initiated with the NSCN (IM) camp to hand over the accused to the police, it was stated. Police said once the accused is handed over to them, they would be able to trace and nab his accomplice(s) involved in the crime. Meanwhile, Dimapur Police has also announced handsome reward to any person(s) for any information leading to the arrest of the culprits.
