A 24-hour state wide bandh was called in Manipur to protest against the gruesome killings of kidnapped SDO/SDM and two others by armed cadres of a militant outfit operating in the hill areas after the bodies were discovered under the Lukharabi bridge located five km south of the Senapati police station Tuesday at around 7 am. The bodies of the Sub divisional officer/sub-divisional magistrate (SDO/SDM) of Kasom Khullen in Ukhrul district 39-year old Dr Thingnam Kishan alias Ibopishak along driver named Aribam Ranjan (36) of Uripok, Imphal ,a mandal(below revenue inspector in the revenue department) one Yumnam Token of Singjamei Yumnam Leikai were discovered under the bridge by the villagers of Taphou Kuki village. Police said the three abducted victims were tortured by beating their heads and bodies with heavy objects and bludgeoning them to death. Police recovered a spade and stones with bloodstains from the spot where the dead bodies were abandoned after the gruesome killing. The victims’ hands were also found tied at the back with clothes. The slain SDO was proceeding to Ukhrul district headquarters to attend a meeting on February 13 at DC office to discuss matters relating to the visit of state works minister, K Ranjit. The vehicle MNG-5799 used by the victims was still missing, the police said. The kidnap came to light only when the SDO was not present at the next day’s civic reception for the minister at the sub-divisional headquarters and only after one female staff of the SDO office informed the family that he failed to show up at the office.
