Orientation programme at Don Bosco School, Lazami

A three-day orientation programme for students and teachers of Don Bosco School, Lazami, concluded February 15. Topics on study skills, time management, career planning and many other topics related to students’ life were deliberated Students were given proper understanding on ‘Gate Way Drugs’ that were available especially nicotine and other substances, the influence it has on them and how it lead them to addiction. Teachers were taught to identify the areas that needed more attention to improve the quality of teaching life. They were taught how to bring a balance between personal life and professional life. The third day was for people of the area where they were given tips on parenting skills, how to bring up their kids, to understand the temperaments of their children, giving quality time for the growth of their children and the need to awaken themselves in regard to social issues of the day including drug abuse and HIV and AIDS. All groups were given awareness education on ‘Substance Abuse’ and impact it had on individuals and families. The role of parents and teachers in combating the menace; how to identify the children who are into it? What type of help could be offered by school and the management? were some the key topics that were dwelt at length. The programme was organized by Rev. Fr. Mathias Dias, OFM. Cap, Fr. Yesudas, OFM, Cap, and the programmes were animated by Rev. Fr. Joe Mariadhas, Director of Shalom Rehabilitation Centre, Chumukedima, Nagaland.
