A release issued by the MIP said the report of the vernacular paper was “unbecoming of the role of the mass media” while “ restraint is the need of the hour under such situation”. It said the people’s emotion “ should not be generated in such manner, directed against any organization” . It said the situation could become more explosive if it was “ exploited by anti-social elements with communal sting.” The release expressed surprise over the sit-in demonstration organized by the JAC, where “everything was directed against the NSCN and showing the organization in a very bad taste.” The MIP said the JAC raised “vulgar and indecent” placards “ attacking the NSCN in the filthiest language” adding such protest was regrettable and advised the JAC “ to be more careful and responsible.” “Misdirected protest only foes to hurt people’s sentiments and this is dangerously harmful for social harmony and peaceful coexistence” , it added.
