Thejaser, Vikhozolie clinch title

Thejaser Khate and Vikhozolie Khate lifted the All Nagaland Tennis Championship Men’s doubles crown played at Chavino Peseyie Memorial Indoor Stadium Tennis Complex, Nagarjan, Dimapur on Saturday. The champions crashed Petevi Meyase and Iciraibe Salie in a straight set 6-4, 7-5. Thejaser Khate and Vikhozolie Khate proved much superior and better pair compared to the opponent team. In a contest that lasted over an hour, Thejaser Khate and Vikhozolie Khate had to toil hard in the opening set but they ultimately prevailed over their error-prone rivals. In contrast, the second set was much closer and hard fought win for the winners as Petevi Meyase and Iciraibe Salie also gave their best however were dominated and outclass by the champions. Earlier in Men’s singles Thejaser Khate outclassed Iciraibe Salie 6-1, 6-2 in the one sided match. It took about 45 minutes for the single champion to drown his opponent. In women singles Avozo Haikube edged out Katoni Awomi 6-2, 6-2 while Lhokishe Awomi defeated Asa Khate 6-1, 6-7, 10-6 in super veteran singles. The other winners in various categories were Megatsoie Khate under 10 category Asetso Khate under 12 boys, Zhaputso Khate under 14 boys, Iciraibe Salie under 18 boys. While in under 18 junior double Icitaibe Salie and Petevi Meyase won the first place. The best ball boy went Arito Khate .The winners were awarded with certificate, trophy and cash amounts. Later in the closing ceremony Apok Jamir MLA speaking on the occasion as the chief guest said that Tennis has come a long way and that he won’t be surprise if tennis players from Nagaland represent the country in Davis cup and even in grand slams. He further lauded the Nagaland Tennis Association for keeping the games alive and for creating interest among the young people. Apok Jamir also urged the youngsters and tennis enthusiast to be dedicated and work hard to reach another level in the game. He also congratulated the participants for taking part in the tournament. He further hoped to see the golden era of tennis dawning in Nagaland, where youngsters with talents would emerge and represent the country even at the highest level. The chief guest Apok Jamir along with the guest of honour, Rovi Sangma, Asst.Central Intelligence Officer (ACIO) distributed the prizes and trophies to the winners.
