Assam Rifle personnel basing on information about the movement of NSCN (K) activist around Bongkolong and Khelma village, about 25 km west of Athibung March 17 had gone to Khelma village and laid a cordon. According to a defense release, a column of 32 AR after lying cordon and subsequent tightening of the noose, confirmed that a group of NSCN (K) cadres were concentrating in Khelma village, which many of them in uniform carrying weapons.
It asserted that Assam Rifles authorities conveyed gross violation of agreed Cease Fire Ground Rules (CFGR) to the group through village authorities and informed chairman CFMG accordingly.
The AR also conveyed that such armed movement of cadres outside designate camps would not be permitted under any circumstances, which it said threatens the life of local populace besides vitiating peace in the area.
Defense sources said that the situation was being closely monitored to ensure that NSCN (K) cadres were forced out of the civilian area to designated camp of Athibung in the overall interest of public safety, security and peace to prevail in the state. Meanwhile, AR has appealed factions not to carryout any activity in contravention to agreed CFGR, stating it would initiate stringent action to ensure peace and tranquility within the state.
