Anti-militant protest staged across Manipur

Locals of Khundakpam and Keibi area under the Khundrakpam assembly constituency in Imphal east district staged sit-in protest against the shooting and injuring of two Congress workers on Tuesday by suspected militants. Protesting against the shooting incident, locals said that both the congress workers were responsible citizens and forerunners in taking up developmental works and attacking them would only hamper developmental activities in the locality. The womenfolk participating in the protest lamented not to attack persons committed in working for the welfare of the people. Residents of Chingmeirong west and Langol Game village in Imphal west also carried out sit-in protests at their respective areas on Wednesday decrying the acts of militants. A bomb was lobbed at the residence of an engineer identified as Ibomcha at Langol Game village under Lamphel police station at Tuesday night around 9.25 pm. No casualties were however reported. In another incident, a bomb was hurled at the residence of a retired assistant engineer of IFCD Warepam Madan on Tuesday. The sit-in protest condemned the bomb attack at residential areas stating that such acts caused panic among the people and appealed the militants not to carry out such acts. The protests were carried out under the aegis of JAC formed in connection with repeated attacks at residential areas.
