20 addl Coys of CPMF for poll duty in Nagaland

In the run up to the parliamentary election and by-elections to the four constituencies scheduled on April 16 , the centre will dispatch 20 additional companies of central paramilitary force to the state. The additional force was likely to arrive on March 25 and will be deployed for pre-poll duties in various part of the state, PHQ spokesperson DIG, L.Doungel told Nagaland Post. Admitting there was no information whether the centre would allot more forces, the PHQ spokesperson disclosed that security measures to utilize the available local force for election duties had been planned out. In this regard, the service of both the Home Guards and Village Guard would be utilized for election duty, he said. Presently, the state has its own force of about 22,000 policemen, about 9,600 Village Guards and Home Guards. The state had earlier sought an additional 45 companies of CPMF for election duty. Presently, there are about 16 companies of CRPF deployed in the state mostly for various static duties. Besides, there are about 12 Assam Rifles battalion and a BSF battalion deployed in the state whose services are likely to be used for area dominations and general environmental securities. Doungel said that out of the total 1718 polling stations in the state 109 polling station fall in the four assembly constituencies where by-poll would be held. Meanwhile, he also informed that the additional CPMF deployed in the state would leave for poll duties in other state as soon as the polling of over in the state, leaving the post poll security to the existing available forces in the state to perform. Further, he also revealed that the state had committed to provide 12 companies of IR from the state to perform election duties outside the state after the poll in the state is over.
