The Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) party’s plans to expand its political base to all Naga inhabited areas of three neighbouring states by setting up official party candidate for the ensuing parliamentary elections, has been delayed. However, the NPF plans to go outside the state for the first time to support certain candidates in the neighbouring states. In Manipur, the NPF’s plans to set up a candidate suffered a setback in the Outer Manipur constituency currently being held by Mani Chiranamei of the People’s Democratic Alliance(PDA). Mani has been renominated by the PDA leaving the NPF with no choice but to back out. However, the party plans to expand its wings to the remaining Naga inhabited areas of the three states of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by supporting certain candidates in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh during the forthcoming Parliamentary election. In Arunachal Pradesh, the NPF is learnt to have decided to extend support to the candidature of former Home Minister, Wanglet, a Naga hailing from Tirap district who will be contesting as Independent. Similarly, the party also decided to support the candidature of Alwyn who will be contesting on ASDC ticket in Autonomous Parliamentary Constituency (Karbi Anglong), the source said. Meanwhile, it was also learnt that the NPF party had constituted a five member constitution amendment committee headed by its Secretary General, K.G.Kenye that includes NPF candidate for the forthcoming parliamentary election C.M.Chang. The committee is likely to complete its job and submit the draft proposed amendment of the constitution within the next few months. The same will go public seeking views and suggestions and later take it to the party’s general convention and then finally to the CEC for final approval.
