Clearing its stand on the KLNLF’s 10 point charter of demands, CPI (ML) on Saturday has extended its full support to all the demands floored by the Karbi militant organization. In a release Daniel Teron on behalf of the CPI (ML) Karbi Anglong unit, stated that “Autonomous State movement was launched and nurtured under the leadership of CPI (ML) activities like Dr. Jayanta Rongpi and his contemporary party colleagues, since then CPI (ML) has been committed to carry out this struggle until the cherish goal of Autonomous Statehood is achieved, no matter what price the party may have to pay for it.” “While many of the former movement leaders after parting away from the movement had changed their course and signed the so called Kuki Regional Council agreement signed on December 4, 2000 and also had welcomed clause 8 of Bodo accord, on the other hand CPI (ML) have been the only party to oppose such ill- conceived and divisive steps” Teron said. On the issues of human rights violation, state terror extra judicial killings and other issues mentioned in the 10 points charter of KLNLF , Teron mentioned that such demand was a part of the CPI (ML)’s broad movement agenda since last twenty three years, “CPI (ML) would like to re-iterate therefore that the party do upheld the spirit of the charter and would also to emphasis that economic empowerment of rural poor, emancipation of weaker sections and attainment of sustainable and lasting peace are what CIP(ML) is striving for” Daniel Teron mentioned. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) was the first to react on the ten point charter of demands being issued by the KLNLF/KNPR to political parties ahead of the parliamentary election. Expressing the hopes and promises of the party in the ten points demand through the media, NCP president of Karbi Anglong district committee Hidinath Rongpi has given his own concern by stating that the party is still in support of the political demands of the outfit and for that the NCP would give their efforts in solving the political dilemma of the outfit. He also stated that to expedite the process a peaceful environment is necessary and for that a unilateral ceasefire should be agreed upon between the state government and the outfit. On the government machineries like army, CRPF and police harassing the innocent villagers and ill-treating the women, he said that such activities should be stopped. Stating on education and economic backwardness, the party president has blamed the ruling government for not taking keen attention for improving the education and economic standard of tribal people. Hidinath Rongpi said that dishonesty has been a barrier and the party would struggle to wipe out corrupt practices in the district. About the seventh point in the charter of demands placed by the KLNLF, Rongpi also opined that the police highhandedness is on high while the police district status in Hamren should be immediately removed. Some other demands including judicial enquiry into the killing of their cadres, killing of KLNLF general secretary, HS Timug, he said that a proper enquiry into the incident should be done. “The party is also against the clandestine assassination of members of the anti-talk group by UPDS or government forces and are also against the demand of Kuki Regional Council by KRA and the proposed creation of Dhemaraji by DHD,” the release stated.
