As part of Eastern Air Command (EAC), Indian Air Force, one of the five operational commands of the IAF, golden jubilee celebration this year, a year long programme has been chalked out which includes display by the IAF aerobatic team, ‘Surya Kiran’, para-jumping by ‘Akash Ganga’ team, paragliding, musical evening by the ‘Air Warrior Symphony Orchestra’ and motor cycle expedition amongst others.
According to a defence release issued by media and IP cells, 3 Corp headquarter, the motorcycle expedition which was flagged off from Fort William, Kolkata, on March 8 would cover a distance of 4000 kms en-route to Barrackpore, Bagdogra, Nathula, Hasimara ,Digaru, Guwahati, Jorhat, Chabua, Dimapur and Kumbhigram (Silchar).
The release also stated that the expedition is being led by squadron leader, Vivek Bhatia, who has undertaken many such long range expeditions, along with ten ‘air warriors’.
While en-route to Kumbhigram, the team was welcomed at Rangapahar Military Station by commander, 11 TAC (Air Force) and other ranks and the final lap to Kumbhigram was ceremoniously flagged off by Wing Commander G. Kago, commander 11 TAC (Air Force) on March 20.
Meanwhile, the defence release also stated that through the expedition, the ‘Air Force’ would spread awareness to the youths of the Northeastern states the career prospects in the ‘Air force’ and to motivate and guide eligible young boys and girls to join the defence forces.
The expedition would also spread awareness about the prevention and control of various diseases and other health-related problems prevailing in the region.
