The performance of Shillong Chamber Choir marked the fourth day’s event of the North East Spring Festival ‘2009 at NEZCC Complex, Dimapur. Led by Neil Nongkynrih, the choir more made up for the delay to the start of proceedings for the evening due to the sudden downpour. After shifting venue to the makeshift stage inside the NEZCC office building, the choir enthralled the audience to some absolutely delightful music presenting classics from Sound of Music, Folk Opera in Khasi, Mozart, Bach and contemporary music of the likes of Josh Groban. The operatic voice of 15 year old Ebarisha was the stand out performance of the evening. Formed in the year 2001 by a group of singers who wanted to produce a variety of quality music, their repertoire includes music of Handel, Mozart, Bach, Gershwin, contemporary and operatic music. Performances of the Shillong Chamber Choir have won the hearts of music lovers in London, Switzerland, Geneva, Poland as well as Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi. Representing India in the Celebration of 60 years of Diplomatic Relations between India and Austria for the Eastern Zone Concert recently, Shillong Chamber Choir performed both at Shillong and Kolkata. It was a historic concert as they performed on stage for the first time with world renowned Vienna Chamber Orchestra. Impressed with their talents, members of Vienna Chamber Orchestra have resolved to visit Shillong for a workshop and conduct live concert in the Northeastern States. All members of the Shillong Chamber Choir are Cultural Ambassadors of India spreading the message of peace and happiness. Keeping this in mind, the Choir has specially invited by NEZCC to perform at the Spring Festival ‘2009 at Dimapur spreading their message through their songs and music.
