A reporter and driver of Nagaland Post were assaulted by around ten unidentified miscreants near Clock Tower junction at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, while returning to office on press duty. The incident took place after the staff (Sebastian Ezung) asked the reason for the road blockade. Later, when some staff of the newspaper gave chase in a vehicle , the miscreants, in a silver metallic Tata Sumo without a registration plate, sped away through Nagaland Check Gate towards Dillai. The matter was reported to Police. The Editor and Staff of Nagaland Post have condemned the act of lawlessness and construed it as an attack on the media as well as all law abiding citizens. The newspaper has urged the police to nab the culprits and bring them to book so as to instill confidence among the fraternity and general public, particularly in Dimapur. Meanwhile, the Dimapur Press Club in a statement, condemned the attack and urged the law enforcing agencies to handle the matter seriously and book those involved under relevant sections of the law. The DPC said that even as the miscreants assaulted a member of the Fourth Estate, they had also shown to the law enforcing agencies that they could rule the road and do whatever they like. Further, it said the fact that the miscreants were travelling without registration plate spoke volumes about criminal activities in Dimapur that often goes unnoticed. The DPC also expressed sympathy to its member and prayed for his speedy recovery.
