To spread education and to educate the orphans in computer knowledge, State Resource Centre, North East Hill University, (SRC, NEHU) Shillong presented a computer set to Wondang-Ki Orphanage and Adoption Centre, Fellowship Colony, Dimapur at a simple programme on Wednesday. The dedication of the computer set was conducted by Y.Y Kikon, board member of the orphanage centre.
Encouraging the orphans on the occasion, Depe Naro, Project Officer, SRC, NEHU Shillong expressed the requirement of information in this computer age adding “knowledge is power” and that, use of computer could bring changes in lives and transform society.
He also hoped that the computer programme would help not only the children of Wondang-Ki Orphanage Home but also attract children of the locality.
Director, Wondang-Ki Orphanage, N. Thungdemo Kikon chaired the programme and he also thanked Prof. Eugene D. Thomas, Director, SRC, NEHU, Shillong for having provided the computer set to the centre.
He also said that the centre has plans to open computer centre to access computer knowledge for the orphans of the centre as well as children from poor families. Accountant, SRC NEHU Shillong, M. Marpna and other senior citizens also attended the programme.
It may be mentioned that Wondang-Ki Orphanage and Adoption Centre in its effort to bring quality education for the orphans has adopted 18 girls in the age group of 3 ½ years to 14, all studying at El-Shaddai Academy School, Duncan, Dimapur.
