Asia’s first all-women news and current affairs channel, Focus Television is all set to be launched on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8. A part of the North East TV Group, the channel will be the sixth in the Group’s bouquet. The channel is a novel experiment in that it is going to be run by women, for the women and by women. “Ours is a 24 X 7 news and current affairs channel for women. It shall have news, current affairs and infotainment, as its content from a women’s point of view,” deputy managing editor of the channel, Nilanjana Banerjee said. “The bilingual channel would strive to facilitate women to realise their inner strength in order to create and nourish their independence, confidence and lifestyle because when women are empowered, it enriches the entire family… society…nation and that ripple-effect on future generations,” said Banerjee. “Focus Television shall be telecast in both Hindi and English. Besides news, we will have a plethora of women-based shows, throughout the week,” said the deputy managing editor. The channel shall be beamed off INSAT 2 E which has footprints across the world. For distribution within the country, the channel is being placed on leading DTH platforms, she added.
