The Congress today kicked off its campaign for the April 23 Lok Sabha elections in Assam in style with a state level party convention, triggering the tempo amongst the grassroot level office bearers. Led by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and party president Bhubanswar Kalita, the entire Congress leadership was present in the convention, egging on the party cadres to get ready for the electioneering while castigating the opposition. The new alliance of the AGP and BJP was the favorite target of the Congress leadership and one after another, they went on full offensive claiming better performance than the previous year. In the Last Lok Sabha, along with their ally Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) they won 10 seats, but this time they have claimed all the 14 seats, while AGP and BJP won two seats each last time. The Congress is likely to announce its full list on March 12 as the names of six of the 14 candidates have already been finalised. while a list was sent to the high command for the remaining eight constituencies, one of which will be left out for the BPF.
