Football for Bible 2009: PBSBC rally to clinch semifinals berth

Purana Bazaar Sumi Baptist Church (PBSBC) reached semifinals after defeating Kuki Christian Church (KCC) Medziphema 6-5, by a penalty shoot-out after both team were locked 1-1, in the regulated time, in the ongoing Football for Bible tournament, played at DDSC Stadium here, Tuesday. PBSBC will now take on Kughovi Village Baptist Church in the semifinal encounter while in other semifinal match Lotha Baptist Church Dimapur (LBCD) will clash with Jalukie Baptist Church on Wednesday. The tournament is being organized by Bible Society of India, Auxiliary Resource Mobilization Committee (RMC). Both men’s and women’s final matches will be played on March 12. In the penalty shoot out PBSBC scored through the boots of Azo, S. Seyie, Peter, Apen and Kughato while the goals for KCC were netted by Lalpu, Thongminthang, Iqbal and Paojagin. Earlier, in the 15th minute of the regulated time, PBSBC had the first opportunity of taking the lead but S. Seyie header through a cross by Peter was well collected by the rival keeper Kughato. It was then in the 19th minute, KCC took the lead after right forward Thongminthang superb strike inside PBSBC box found the net. Right after one minute PBSBC got an opportunity of leveling the score line but Peter powerful volley landed into the save hands of the rival custodian. The score line remained 1-0, in favour of KCC in the first half. Coming after the lemon break PBSBC searched for equalizer was rewarded when man of the match, Peter scored inside KCC box in the 44th minute to level the score line 1-1. Earlier, in the exhibition Dimapur District Football Referee Association (DDFRA) defeated BSI officials 4-2. The goals for DDFRA were scored by Akang, Namsi, Khazheto and Katem while the goals for BSI were scored by Mughato and Kazheto (own goal). ADC Dimapur Sedevikho Khro who was the match patron of the day donated Rs.10,000 towards the tournament. Meanwhile, Dimapur District Football Referee Association (DDFRA) has lauded all those donors for their contribution during the buffet at DDSC Stadium on February 17. The association through a press release by its president, Shiyito Achumi also informed that the DDFRA in aid of educational tour will be going to Kolkata in the month of April to watch the Kolkata League.
