The coordination committee of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) on Tuesday endorsed the candidature of CM Chang as its consensus candidate to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha election scheduled for April 16. The DAN coordination committee endorsed CM Chang’s candidature at a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residential office here on Tuesday. However, his candidature will be officially declared by the DAN only after the ongoing assembly session. There were some members of the DAN coalition who seemed clearly unhappy over the declaration of CM Chang as the candidate even before the DAN committee meet. The NPF however was learnt to have denied officially declaring him as the party candidate but admitted that it was a case of “leak out” to the media. Representatives of all the DAN coalition partners - NPF, BJP, NCP, JD (U) and Independent MLAs - reportedly attended today’s meeting. CM Chang, a retired bureaucrat, unsuccessfully contested the Nagaland Legislative Assembly elections on NPF ticket from his home constituency 51 Noksen Assembly seat in Tuensang district in 2003 and 2008.
